Your Itinerary
Fly, drive, bike, swim, hike; however, you choose, STEP ONE IS GETTING HERE. Check into The Barn, a charming character camp, from 3.00 o’clock onwards, and make yourself at home, choose from a classic cabin or private Beach Bach property. Checkout their accommodation options. Self-cater tonight or pop over to The Park Café for a wood fire pizza before settling in. Watch the sun go down, stars come out and get ready for a week of ultimate adventure.
Tramp “The Gullet”
Activity: Water Taxi Drop off to Torrent Bay, Hike The Gullet to Awaroa 16km (4-6 hours)
Accommodation: The Awaroa Lodge
Water Taxi up the coast to Torrent Bay, catch a glimpse of Split Apple Rock, and look out for seals basking in the sun at Fisherman and Adele Island before arriving at Torrent Bay (a 30-40-minute boat ride up the coast). This will be the start of your full-day trek up the Abel Tasman coast. Climb steadily from Torrent Bay, catching incredible views as you climb into the lush bush, crossing the Falls River Swing Bridge and carrying on up the coast.
This 16km stretch will take you through native forest, past waterfalls, and across beachfront, an approximate 4-6-hour hike.
The hike finishes at Awaroa Lodge, a luxury and secluded spot tucked in along the Awaroa Beach. The lodge is warm, inviting and full of character with a comfy lounge, library, bar, restaurant and outdoor pizzeria. Choose from standard rooms, private rooms and superior suites. Enjoy dinner here and wander down to the beach at night, if you’re lucky you may even catch some bioluminescence.
Discover the Marine Reserve
Activity: Kayak the Marine Reserve
Accommodation: Beach camping in the National Park!
Embark on a guided Kayak trip exploring the Northern Coast and entire Marine Reserve. Paddle into tranquil lagoons and explore the hidden gems of the remote coast. Discover highlights like Shag Harbour, visit seal colonies at Tonga Island and paddle under the Tonga Arches before paddling into your campsite. Set up your tent on the beach overlooking the ocean and watch as the tides come in and out, forming an incredible beachfront. Enjoy dinner that can be prepared by your guide and a drink before falling asleep to the sounds of the waves. Get ready for Day 3.
You are the Captian
Activity: Kayak the Stretch
Accommodation: Camping in the National Park
Catch a sunrise over the ocean from your tent window and enjoy breakfast and hot coffee before setting out your own. Today you are the captain, spend your morning navigating independently down the Abel Tasman Coast to Anchorage.
Take time to stop at the beaches and bays along the way and enjoy this stunning coastal stretch.
Paddle into Anchorage Bay and set up camp for the night. Spend your afternoon relaxing at the beach or venture further to The Pitt Head loop to the east of Anchorage. If you are still up for a paddle, you can continue round to Te Pukatea beach just past Anchorage. Cook dinner tonight at your camp, and enjoy your last night in the National Park. Get ready for a big one tomorrow.
The Big Splash
Activity: Canyon the Torrent River
Accommodation: The Barn
Meet your Canyon guide on the beach and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime. Today you will immerse yourself in the Torrent Canyon and challenge yourself as you abseil, zipline, jump and slide through the canyon. Experience the stunning waterfalls and crystal-clear pools as you navigate through the gorgeous granite canyon and native forest. * awkward wording. Finish the trip in Cleopatra Pools and hike back to Anchorage. A water taxi will zip you back to Marahau, where it all began. Spend the night in comfort back at the Barn, soak in an outdoor tub, and start the reminiscing of your incredible once in a lifetime trip.

Wake up back in Marahau remembering the adventure of the last 4 days. Check out some other cool things in the Tasman Region! There is plenty to see and do, even for some nice detours on the way home.
